Los Kitos Go Back to School
During the summer of 2007 a special cartooning and animation class was offered
through a federal foreign language assistance program grant. The purpose of
the grant is to enhance foreign language learning through the arts and
technology.
Martha Montoya, bilingual teacher in residence and cartoonist for Los Kitos
cartoon strip and John Hall, animation teacher at Laguna Hills High School,
co-taught the class.
Research in the kids learning languages through the arts has shown that it
promotes 2nd language acquisition and builds confidence, self identity, self
control, collaboration as well as social tolerance. These special two-way
language immersion classes focus on teaching students in secondary school
about cartooning and animation.
With the classes conducted in both Spanish and English, students are motivated
to apply their language skills in both languages in order to cooperate with
each other on activities that promote positive opportunities for creative
expression. Please visit http://216.100.95.242 for more details.
