Artists for
Human Rights to host International Awards

LOS
ANGELES, OCT 2 -- Hosted by Artists for Human Rights, the annual
presentation of the International Human Rights Hero Awards was held at
the Church of Scientology International Celebrity Centre, earlier this
month. Awards were presented to three outstanding human rights activists and
educators for their successful fight for human rights.
Artists for Human Rights,
an organization formed with the purpose of joinging artists together with
the common cause of raising awareness of human rights around the world,
presented “An Evening of Inspiration” concert as part of the evening
celebration.
The first awardee was Sammy Jacobs Abbey, a
Ghana native and Director of the International Centre for Conflict and Human
Rights Analysis, who since the age of 18 has been involved in mediation and
conflict resolution and active in conducting peace-keeping missions for the
United Nations.
Martha Montoya, the second awardee, is an
internationally renowned Latino cartoonist and creator of Los Kitos, a
comic strip which reaches 12 million adults and children every day teaching
them good lessons about life. More recently, Ms. Montoya gave life to the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights by illustrating each of its 30 articles.
The final awardee was Jack Healy, former
director of Amnesty International for 12 years who has reached thousands with
a human rights message through international concerts he organized with music
greats such as U2, Sting, Sinnead O’Connor, Peter Gabriel and Ruben Blades.
