Orange County Children’s Book Festival

Los Kitos characters will make an appearance at the OC Children’s Book Festival, thanks to a partnership to promote reading among kids between Los Kitos and the organizers of the event. 

Los Kitos promotion and participation resulted in a 40% increase in Hispanic attendees to the one-day event, which took place at the Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa on September 30, 2006.

AT THE ORANGE COUNTY CHILDREN'S BOOK FESTIVAL

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday- September 30, 2006, the Orange Coast College hosts the third annual Orange County Children's Book Festival to promote literacy, on it's beautiful campus from 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M authors, book signings, bands and celebrity sport figures from the Angels and other teams will be on hand for autographs and much more. www.kidsbookfestival.com

One of the featured high lights of the day will be Martha Montoya and her famous “Los Kitos” cartoon characters. Martha is a resident of Orange County. Martha shares her message to parents, she says; “Think like a kid, always look at things from a kid's point of view and you'll have a happier relationship with your child”. Martha went on to say; “Kids like to have fun. Kids don't see problems”. Martha recommended if parents don't feel comfortable reading a story to their child, take a few minutes and create your own story or tell a story you remember from your own childhood. This memorable storytelling experience will benefit your child in many ways including enhancing his/hers interest in school.

Martha combined her beliefs with her artistic talent and built a very successful business. She sends her positive messages to kids in a fun way through her cartoon characters. Each of her “Los Kitos” characters has a unique smile on their face. Each character touches both kids and adults alike in a very special way. Martha's “Los Kitos' cartoon book will be given as a free gift with the purchase of any book at the Children's Book Festival.

Orange Coast College will host on its beautiful campus, the third annual Orange County Children's Book Festival on Saturday, September 30th, 2006. Admission and parking are free. Activities will start at 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Last year the event attracted more than 15,000 visitors. The Children's Book Festival is an interactive family event. There will be many book vendors who will exhibit their books and perform personalized book signing.
There will be scheduled activities for children. There will be tents set up featuring entertainment, dance group presentations, dance troops, Fannie Farmer's Magic Band and storytelling. The main stage will feature such celebrities as Curious George and Yellow Hat Man, plus more to be announced.

BACK GROUND MARTHA MONTOYA


Martha Montoya is a woman who had a dream of creating a cartoon strip that would share her message of helping children to develop a positive sense of self and the world they live in. She was born in Bogota, Colombia, where she excelled in chemistry and math, but Martha never forgot her passion and love of her Snoopy book that she read many times over from the time she was nine years old.


When she was 23 years old she came to the United States. She studied the famous cartoonist such as Disney and started on her own quest to fulfilling her dreams and making a difference.
